More than 30,000 Muslims from across the globe met in the UK for a convention opposing extremism and terrorist groups like Islamic State.

The three-day annual event was the Ahmadiyya Islamic Movement's 50th convention and saw Ahmadi Muslims from every continent gather at Oakland Farm in Hampshire, UK.

The Ahmadiyya movement was founded in Punjab, India in the late 19th century. It preaches peace over violence and Ahmadi Muslims view themselves as leading the revival and peaceful propagation of Islam.

Speaking before the convention, His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said: "The only thing the terrorists are achieving is to completely violate the teachings of the Holy Quran and of the Holy Prophet Muhammad," the MailOnline reported.

"Let it be clear that they are not practising Islam, rather it seems as though they have invented their own hate-filled and poisonous religion."

As part of the convention, delegates made a vow of peace and a pledge of allegiance to their home countries.

Rafiq Hayat, who heads the UK Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, drove home this message home.

“We have much to be grateful for in Britain which has allowed our community to prosper and contribute to British life for more than 100 years. We count ourselves proud to call ourselves British Ahmadi Muslims.”
