Enemalta has applied for a Planning Authority permit to dig a trench from the Ġnejna car park to 'nearby properties'.

The only 'properties' with no electricity in Ġnejna are boathouses, all of which are believed to have been built into the ridge illegally.

The area is outside the development zone.

The 'boathouses', some of which are several metres above sea level and without access to slipways, sometimes use electrical power from generators.

Controversy raged in 2014 when Enemalta extended the electricity supply to illegal boathouses in Armier. At the time, the government argued that it was not sanctioning the boathouses but ensuring that electricity was not stolen, and that it was all billed.
