I read the articles relating to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Turkey with growing alarm. Am I misreading the situation there or is this the perfect power seeker’s path to the supreme control the Turks refused to allow him several years ago? When I watched the developing ‘coup’ via the news media I was struck by how slapdash and comfortable the ‘plotters’ seemed. It was as if they were involved in an exercise!

The bombs that exploded were largely ineffective, hardly the careful planning of a ruthless group intent on taking Turkey over and the incredibly thorough purges of anti-Erdogan voices are so deep and so comprehensive that they look pre-planned.

I certainly cannot believe that even the most efficient of secret services in the world would have been able to identify and prove the involvement of so many so quickly.

If I remember correctly, Erdogan’s first attempt at securing total power revolved around secrecy, misinformation and refusing to answer questions.

Beware such people for they are often the ‘back-door’ death of freedom and democracy.
