Superstar singer Adele told a crowd in Los Angeles that she had turned down an offer to perform during the Super Bowl halftime show because "that show is not about music."
"First of all, I'm not doing the Super Bowl," the British singer told fans. "Well, come on, that show is not about music. And I don’t really - I can’t dance or anything like that. They were very kind, they did ask me, but I said no."
The NFL Super Bowl is the final game of the American Football calendar, and its halftime slot is considered one of the biggest gigs in the world for musicians.
Audiences regularly top the 110 million mark, with Coldplay, Madonna, Beyoncé and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers among the household names to have played the show.
Adele's comments seemed to touch a nerve with the NFL and its lead sponsor Pepsi, with the two issuing a joint statement saying that they had "not extended a formal offer to Adele or anyone else."
