I refer to comments by Health Minister Chris Fearne in relation to the government’s contract with Vitals Global Healthcare (The Sunday Times of Malta, August 7).

The Medical Association of Malta confirms that it has stalled signing and formally entering into a written agreement with the government and/or Vitals regarding this privatisation until the contract is published. However, the MAM adds that it is also insisting that this contract is audited by the National Audits Office or a reputable international audit agency.

Vitals has been reported to be a newly set up company registered in Malta owned by another ‘letter box’ company in the British Virgin Islands.

The MAM does not want to be drawn into the complex details of this deal until it is proven to be transparent and reputable by an independent due diligence exercise.
