I have seen the letter by Bernard Vassallo about the old opera house.

The whole story started under the previous administration when the contract for both the new Parliament building and the old opera house ruins was given to architect Renzo Piano. The present administration continued on the same lines.

I know an Italian architect – Giovanni Trevisan – was interested but, unfortunately, he did not enjoy the respect of neither the previous nor the present administration, which, of course, he regretted. He is heading a Maltese-Italian consortium and if an expression of interest were to be issued and they would be successful, they would work on a project that would cover the whole theatre, restoring it to its former glory at their own expense.

This is an investment like any other, only the money will be spent on culture.

We need such a project so our majestic capital, Valletta, will have a truly decent entrance when it serves as the Capital of Culture in 2018.
