A centre for seafarers inaugurated yesterday will offer sailors onshore accommodation, social support and help educate the local maritime sector, Infrastructure Minister Joe Mizzi said yesterday. 

The €300,000 centre, which sits alongside ta' Liesse church in Valletta and was first announced in February, was funded through the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation.

The project involved renovating and altering the existing building, adding a lift, tiling and adding new water pipes and electricity wiring.
