The developers and the Planning Authority are not interested in public opinion and ‘we’are not consulted at all. They know full well that the Sliemalocal  council and the peopleof Sliema are totally against the Sliema/Mrieħel sky-scraper projects.

Also, all those interestedin the general environment and our heritage have showntheir disapproval.

The developers say their studies have shown traffic has decreased in Sliema. Try living in Sliema and you will soon discover that is total rubbish.

True, there are people who would never drive to Sliema because they very know they are likely to encounter traffic jams at all times and that parking is virtually impossible throughout the whole day.

As for the drainage coping with the increased demand, as someone has already pointed out, there are certain areas where a foul smelling liquid is oozing onto the beaches and has been so for years.

Surely, this should be sorted out before we increase the volume of sewage that will be generated by these developments.

And maybe, one day, when the discerning tourists who come to Malta for our history and heritage, decide to stop coming because of all the ugly developments taking up more and more of our once beautiful island, the developers and planning authorities may just realise they have killed the goose that laid the golden egg.

Of course, this is their way of selling our island to outsiders who are not really interested in staying here (the ones that do look for more traditional properties) and what is being proposed is totally beyond the pocket of the average Maltese.

Surely we should be looking after those who are trying to find dwellings for themselves and their families.
