A special edition of the Malta Film Fund will be opened in September, in a bid to encourage local filmmakers to produce original content in the run-up to Malta's EU presidency and Valletta 2018 Capital of Culture stint.

New and established filmmakers will be able to access a €250,000 funding pool for their films, animations, documentaries or even TV series aimed at international audiences.

Projects will be selected by a professional panel. Full feature films, documentaries and TV series can recoup up to 50 per cent of their costs through the fund, up to a maximum of €120,000. Short films can access up to €20,000 in funding, with short films by novice filmmakers eligible for €2,500 in funding.

This special edition of the Malta Film Fund will open on September 1, with an application deadline of noon on Monday October 31.

Detailed guidelines, criteria and an application form downloaded from the Malta Film Commission website.
