A post about a racial argument between a Maltese and a black woman in Republic Street, Valletta this morning has been attracting comments of a racial nature on social media.
The incident itself grabbed the attention of a good number of passers-by including a tourist who took pictures of the argument.
Notary Matthew Borg wrote about it on his Facebook wall.
Speaking to timesofmalta.com this afternoon, he said he was leaving McDonalds and could hear the Maltese woman racially abusing the foreigner, who had a child with her.
A brawl ensued between the two women and both had to be restrained by onlookers.
The police were called but they took more than five minutes to arrive on site and by the time they did the fight was over.
Passers-by joined the Maltese woman in racially abusing the other asking her to “return to her own country”.
Notary Borg noted that this incident did not reflect well on Malta as a nation.
“This Maltese woman today made me ashamed to share the same nationality as her. One thing is for certain, she does not speak in my name or in the name of so many others; I and so many others do not relate to such trash. Racism has no place in this world - we have to be a society that is tolerant of one another and all-inclusive,” he wrote.
