New Wolves boss Walter Zenga has vowed to get Molineux rocking again after they edged into the EFL Trophy second round.

Conor Coady’s first goal for the club won it for the hosts as they battled past determined Crawley 2-1 late Tuesday.

Just 8,252 saw Zenga win his first game in charge after his appointment to the Champion-ship club last month and the former Italy international is eager to pack the ground again.

He said: “I’m going to work be-cause my wish, dream and desire is to see the stadium full.

“I really have to say thanks to the players because they put the passion and themselves inside the team.”

Margetson teams up with Allardyce

Martyn Margetson is relishing the opportunity to work with the England team after joining Sam Allardyce’s backroom staff as goalkeeping coach.

Margetson worked under Allardyce at West Ham, the 44-year-old serving the Hammers alongside his duties with Wales which commenced in 2011.

“This is a great opportunity and I am excited to be working alongside Sam again. I know what he can bring to a squad and also to the coaching staff,” Margetson said.

Allardyce was recently foiled in a move for Bayern Munich assistant Paul Clement, but has already appointed Sammy Lee to his national team staff.

Policing costs

London’s Premier League clubs paid a fraction of the policing costs incurred by their Manchester rivals last season.

The five teams under the Metropolitan Police’s jurisdiction – Arsenal, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Tottenham and West Ham – were charged a combined £178,047 for policing the areas inside and immediately outside stadiums controlled by the clubs in the 2015-16 campaign.

By contrast Manchester City had the biggest policing bill, paying Greater Manchester Police £944,195.01 over the same period, with city rivals Manchester United second out of the 20 Premier League clubs with a charge of £925,126.61.

Match-fixing probe

Police have arrested 10 people as part of a probe into alleged match-fixing of a Welsh Premier League game.

Detectives began investigating after receiving information about betting patterns on the match between Port Talbot Town and Rhyl in April.

The fixture in question saw Port Talbot lose 5-0 to already-relegated Rhyl – who had not won in 17 previous matches.

South Wales Police said seven men and three women had been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and were all currently in custody.

Monaco release Ricardo Carvalho

Euro 2016 winner Ricardo Carvalho will not be offered a new deal at Monaco.

The 38-year-old helped Portugal end their wait for international silverware this summer but has been told by the Ligue 1 club that he is surplus to their requirements.

The release ends a three-year stay at the club for the former Chelsea and Real Madrid centre-back as Monaco have already signed three defenders this summer in Poland international Kamil Glik, left-back Benjamin Mendy from Marseille, and Lille’s Djibril Sidibe.

Carvalho made 95 Ligue 1 appearances for AS Monaco, scoring two goals.

Isla joins Cagliari from Juventus

Cagliari have signed Chile midfielder Mauricio Isla from Juventus on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee, the newly promoted Serie A side said yesterday.

The 28-year-old, who spent last year on loan at Marseille, helped Chile retained the Copa America in the United States this year, featuring in the final against Argentina.

Isla has extensive experience of Serie A having moved to Udinese from Universidad Catolica in Chile before securing a contract with the ‘Old Lady’ of Italian football in 2012.

He was part of three title-winning campaigns at Juve but fell out of favour under Massimiliano Allegri.

Cagliari begin their Serie A campaign at Genoa on Aug. 21.

Carlos Sanchez heads to Fiorentina

Fiorentina have signed Aston Villa midfielder Carlos Sanchez on a season-long loan.

The Serie A side also have the option to buy the 30-year-old Colombia international at the end of the campaign if he plays 50 per cent of their matches this season.

The loan deal costs €0.5m.

Sanchez scored one goal in 55 appearances for Villa and was part of the side that was relegated from the Premier League last term.

Sanchez played 67 times for the Colombia national team. Before Villa, he played for Danubio, River Plate, Valenciennes and Elche.
