The British Library – home to the Magna Carta and Shakespeare’s First Folio – has announced a new exhibition on Harry Potter.

Opening in autumn next year, the show will mark the 20th anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter And the Philosopher’s Stone, the first of the books in the boy wizard series.

Furthermore, the exhibition will showcase original material from J.K. Rowling and her publisher Bloomsbury’s archives.

Manuscripts, objects and the bestselling wizarding books will go on display with centuries-old British Library treasures at the venue, which is just metres away from King’s Cross, where the students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry catch the Hogwarts Express in Rowling’s novels.

The British Library said that the exhibition – which does not yet have a name –“will take readers on a journey to the heart of the Harry Potter stories” looking at everything from medieval descriptions of dragons and griffins, to the origins of the philosopher’s stone.

The British Library’s head of culture and learning Jamie Andrews said: “We at the British Library are thrilled to be working with J.K. Rowling and with Bloomsbury to mark the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter, and to inspire fans with the magic of our own British Library collections.”

• The exhibition runs from October 20, 2017, until February 28, 2018, and tickets will be on sale from spring next year.
