A Maltese company has unveiled a high-powered electric sports car with a maximum potential output of 810bhp.

The Valene Black Mamba project has reached its advanced prototype development, with the objective being to begin manufacturing and distribution in 2017, Silex Power, the company behind the car, said in a statement.

The entry-level Black Mamba will feature an 80kW motor with an output of 107 bhp, meaning the car will be able to zip from zero to100km/h in just over four seconds.

Johnaton Grech, the man behind the car, told the Times of Malta that his company has been involved in the industry for the past six years. He said that, despite the high power output of the three-wheel vehicle, electric motors offered much more stable performance than their internal combustion equivalents.

Think of driving itas experiencing allthe excitement of a motorbike, with the safety and comfort that only a car can offer

Despite all the power being delivered to the one rear wheel, Mr Grech said on-board computers would monitor the traction of the rear tyre several times every second in order to help drivers remain in control.

“Our main objective is to bring to our customers the best that modern technology has to offer, all packaged in one exciting vehicle. The Black Mamba is a technologically advanced vehicle in its simplicity, offering unrivalled performance, safety, looks and best of all, a truly unique driving experience.

“The Valene Black Mamba is a superlight sports car aimed at performance users. The Black Mamba offers exceptional handling and traction control. Think of driving it as experiencing all the excitement of a motorbike, however with the safety and comfort that only a car can offer,” the company said.

The car offers up to 500 kilometres autonomy on a single charge with its 50kWh battery pack.

“Thanks to our battery design, the user can fully charge the 50kWh battery pack in one hour using 50kW DC chargers, and the 15kWh battery pack in less than 15 minutes.

“The Black Mamba will also be hypercharging compatible, with charging times under five minutes for all battery sizes.

“Thanks to its streamlined sleek design, the Black Mamba has been aerodynamically optimised to offer minimal air resistance, low uplift and high down-force at increasing speeds.

“This delivers better road holding under the high-performance driving conditions for which the car is designed. The aerodynamics of the vehicle also allow the passive cooling of the battery pack and the electric motor via the vent on top of the vehicle, which draws air at high speed, cooling directly the battery and electronics compartments,” Silex Power said.

The design of the Black Mamba has been engineered to be as simple as possible, to make the vehicle extremely reliable and maintenance free.

Prices for the vehicle start at €35,000 and depend on configuration.

The company is looking for international distribution.
