Lafferty: Norwich City and Northern Ireland striker Kyle Lafferty has been fined £23,000 by the English FA and warned about his future conduct after accepting a charge of misconduct over a betting offence. Lafferty, 28, played at Euro 2016 in France and has won 54 caps for Northern Ireland.

Waghorn: Rangers striker Martyn Waghorn is still awaiting a diagnosis on his hamstring injury but manager Mark Warburton has reported major improvement. Waghorn left the pitch distraught on Saturday after pulling up with hamstring pain late in Rangers’ 1-1 home draw against Hamilton. Warburton said: “He’s having a scan on Tuesday (today). He’s recovering well, hopefully.”

Rangel: Swansea City full-back Angel Rangel has signed a one-year contract extension which will keep him at the Liberty Stadium until 2018. And the 33-year-old Spaniard is looking to stay beyond the terms of his new deal, which will take him to 11 seasons with the South Wales club. He said: “I have a Welsh family and I feel as though I know the city and the country now.”

Cole Goal: Ashley Cole scored in the 89th minute to give the Los Angeles Galaxy a 2-2 draw with the New York Red Bulls on Sunday. Gonzalo Veron put the Red Bulls ahead and Sean Davis looked to have sealed the win on 74 minutes when he put the visitors 2-0 up. However, Steven Gerrard set up Mike Magee in the 80th minute to give the Galaxy hope before Cole snatched the late equaliser as Los Angles extended their unbeaten run to eight matches.

Rui: Roma left-back Mario Rui will be back in action in four months’ time after surgery on his knee last weekend. The 25-year-old joined Roma from Empoli this summer but ruptured his cruciate ligaments in pre-season training. “The time required for my recovery is four months… I am already at work,” he said.

Peralta: Mexico’s leading striker Oribe Peralta has left the Rio Olympics after breaking his nose, with midfielder Rodolfo Pizarro also returning home with a broken leg. Mexico are second in Group C, having drawn 2-2 with Germany and beaten Fiji 5-1.
