England's announcement that tickets for their Wembley Stadium match against Malta will go on sale tomorrow has not gone down well with Three Lions supporters on Twitter. 

A post announcing ticket prices for the 8 October World Cup qualifier was met with a mixture of mockery, derision and irony by supporters, suggesting that six weeks on, England's humiliating Euro 2016 exit against Iceland still rankles. 

"No thank you be a long time when I see those heartless players again," one follower tweeted in reply. Another tried to negotiate a better deal, arguing that "the players should be paying us to come and watch that shower of s**t play!!! #overpaidpremadonnas #england" 

One fan kept it short and sweet, tweeting he'd "rather watch paint dry", while yet another sounded disillusioned before the qualifying campaign had even gotten underway. "The journey always gets off to a good start but ends in disaster," they sighed. 

At least one fan saw the silver lining. "Not bad prices to see us win 1-0 through an 87th minute own goal by the Maltese centre back," @riamdaniel mischievously wrote. 

Members of the England Supporters Club can buy tickets, which start from £25, as of tomorrow. Non-members can buy tickets from 16 August. 

The England vs Malta match will be Sam Allardyce's first home game as England manager, with Roy Hodgson having resigned minutes after England were humbled 1-2 by Euro 2016 surprise package Iceland.
