Reports in the Spanish media yesterday suggested that Real Madrid are ready to part with Isco with Milan looking very keen to sign the midfielder.

AS said in its report that with Isco, 24, failing to command a regular place in the Real line-up, he has now been told he can seek a move elsewhere.

Milan emerged favourites to land Isco. However, top clubs in the Premier League could also join the race to get his signature.

The Italian media said Isco’s potential move to the San Siro is likely to depend on whether the Rossoneri are able to sell Carlos Bacca despite money made available by the new owners.

Wolves debut was ‘amazing’ – Zenga

Wolves boss Walter Zenga was left in no doubt just what English football was all about after an “amazing experience” in his first game in charge.

It looked like being a nightmare start for the Italian when Wolves found themselves 2-0 down to Rotherham.

But they rallied, despite playing over half an hour with 10 men following Dominic Iorfa’s red card, and came back to draw 2-2 at the New York Stadium.

Zenga said: “It’s very nice, sometimes you win, sometimes you learn. The stadium was full, it was a nice game. It’s amazing.

“If we’d have lost it might have been different.”

Italy’s Sansone moves to Villarreal

Villarreal have signed Italy forward Nicola Sansone from Sassuolo on a five-year contract, the Spanish side confirmed.

The 24-year-old scored seven goals in 38 Serie A outings last season as he helped Sassuolo to qualify for the Europa League for the first time.

The German-born attacker began his career with Bayern Munich but represented Italy at various youth levels before making his debut for the senior side in June 2015.

After leaving Bayern Munich in 2011, the wide man featured for Italian side Parma and then on loan at Crotone.

PSV Eindhoven off to winning start

Substitute Gaston Pereiro’s late strike ensured PSV Eindhoven opened their Eredivisie title defence with a win as Phillip Cocu’s men came from behind to triumph 2-1 at Utrecht.

The champions conceded a Sebastien Haller headed effort in the 16th minute before Davy Propper levelled after the break.

Pereiro then fired in the winner direct from a free-kick with 10 minutes to go, having only been on the pitch for four minutes.

Go Ahead Eagles were beaten 3-0 at Den Haag as Willem II were thrashed 4-1 at home by a Vitesse side who scored all their goals in an 18-minute first-half spell.

Neville to return to TV punditry

Gary Neville will make his return as a TV pundit this season following his unsuccessful first foray into management.

Sky Sports has announced that Neville will return to its coverage of the Premier League, just over a month after he was a part of the coaching cull that followed England’s failed Euro 2016 campaign this summer.

Neville’s first move into club management also ended badly as he was sacked after just four months in charge of Spanish club Valencia in March, before leaving his post as England assistant shortly after the shock last-16 defeat to Iceland.

Neville won the prestigious RTS Award for his punditry in 2014 and 2015.

In-form Giovinco

Italian Sebastian Giovinco’s second hat-trick of the season led Toronto FC to a 4-1 triumph over New England Revolution and boosted his hopes of becoming the MLS’s first ever back-to-back MVP on Saturday.

The comprehensive win left Toronto (10-7-6) on 36 points, just one shy of first-placed New York City FC.

The striker, who burst onto the MLS scene last year with an MVP season, is the league’s leading scorer with 15 goals – two more than New York City’s David Villa.

“I’m at my best stage. At 27-28 years old until 34 or 35 should be the best years of football,” the 29-year-old Giovinco told reporters.

“Scoring goals is a bit of an instinct. Sometimes, some of the moments if I think too much I’ll miss.”

Hamsik prolongs Napoli contract

Napoli announced that Marek Hamsik, the team’s captain, had extended his contract at the San Paolo until 2020.

Hamsik, the Slovakia international midfielder, decided not to change club despite interest from Bayern Munich after an impressive Euro 2016. The 29-year-old joined Napoli from Brescia in 2007.

“SSC Napoli is pleased to announce the contract renewal of Marek Hamsik until 2020,” a short statement on the club’s official website said yesterday.

Hamsik has made over 400 appearances for Napoli, scoring 98 goals in the process.
