We all feel the aftermaths of a few days of heavy eating on junk food or the odd beer session. However, do detoxing juices and meals help in any way? No, but first of all what exactly are toxins? Toxins are the chemicals in our bodies that contribute to disease and illness. These chemicals will always be present in our systems but eating a fry-up or drinking too much beer can elevate their levels higher than normal. The human body naturally removes these harmful chemicals but this can take quite some time when we over do it. Enter detoxers.

There are a lot of myths surrounding the process by which toxins can be removed from our system. First of all, despite a juice or salad being healthy, it doesn’t mean that it’s going to remove the amount of toxic chemicals in your system. In fact, adding more to the system could slow down the process even further. That’s mainly the job for our kidney, liver and intestines to do.

The point of this is that healthy living won’t provide a quick fix but it can help if it’s taken as a replacement rather than an addition. Moreover, carbs, protein and fat are needed to sustain the body in terms of absorbing vitamins and minerals, providing energy and helping in brain function.

Losing a certain level of this input could damage one’s metabolism among other ill effects. In short, yo-yoing between unhealthy and very low-fat diets can be harmful in the long run.

The best way to reduce the amount of harmful chemicals in your system is not to add them in the first place. Second to that, drinking lots of water and giving the system time to clean itself out naturally is the other way to help. This will also replace any lost minerals and electrolytes which are so important for a healthy lifestyle. This is not to say that fruit juices and salads are bad but simply that they can’t solve every problem unless we do our part as well.
