We are being urged to save water. Good! Campaigns are organised to educate people to save water, but the Water Services Corporation, which is in duty bound to supply us with water and to see that this essential commodity is not being wasted, is not practising what it preaches.

On the morning of Friday, July 29, we noticed water leaking from the middle of Anġlu Gatt Street, Mosta. We immediately reported the matter to the Water Services Corporation, hoping that in about half an hour or so, the leakage would be repaired. This was not the case.

On Friday evening, we called again and were told that no report had been filed; however we noticed two arrows painted in red indicating the exact place to be repaired, which to my mind meant that somebody had come to check what needed to be done.

We called the WSC again on Saturday morning and we were told that on weekends only household emergencies are taken care of. Incredible, but true.

At around 5pm, after another attempt to contact the WSC, I decided to call the mayor of Mosta Edwin Vassallo, knowing too well that he is the kind of person to take action, and asked him to intervene and exert some pressure on the WSC to have the leakage repaired as soon as possible.

On Tuesday at around noon I also reported the matter to servizz@gov.mt as I couldn’t bear to see so much water being wasted. The job was done in about 25 minutes on that same day at 5.30pm.

The WSC should be ashamed of its inefficiency.
