As a foreigner, I agree with Joe Attard’s letter ‘Beach gone to the dogs’, (The Sunday Times of Malta, July 31).

It seems that dogs fouling the streets have fallen off the radar here in Malta, only to be replaced by dogs fouling and urinating on Malta’s fine beaches. Is this the local authorities’ answer to their non-enforcement/action of the law on dog fouling?

Can I ask why the law has not been enforced in this regard and why no one has been brought to task despite the continuous dog fouling on the streets and promenade in St Paul’s Bay?

Yes, many dog owners do clean up after their animals. But a handful of people are ruining the area by allowing their dogs to foul pavements on a daily basis.

I actually left the water where I was recently swimming in St Paul’s Bay where a dog owner saw fit to allow his dog to swim beside me. Other couples also left the water.

This is not acceptable either to locals or foreigners, especially when Malta boasts about having the cleanest beaches in Europe.

The authorities should designate dog-only places or enforce the law, as happens in other European countries.
