• I have just returned from a wonderful holiday on Lampedusa and what I noticed there in contrast with our lovely island was the absence of rubbish, especially cigarette butts in the sand on beaches, which I really hate.
You hardly see any. At the entrance to the beaches, they have plastic containers filled with sand where one can discard the filthy things. There are also ash trays secured with cable ties to umbrellas. I’m not sure if there is a fine for discarding these filthy disgusting things in the sand.
I have been to most of our sand and rocky beaches this summer and it appears to have become even worse this year. The rocks at St Thomas Bay and Ġnejna Bay are the worst.
Can’t someone do something to stop this vile and disgusting lazy habit everyone seems to accept?
