The following are the top stories in national newspapers today.

Times of Malta leads with a report on the much-awaited inquiry into the ill-fated Paqpaqli motor, which concluded that the organising committee had shown “incompetence” and “seemingly did not give due weight to the lives of spectators”. In another story, it says magistrates Joanne Vella Cuschieri and Aaron Bugeja are likely to face the Commission for the Administration of Justice for being involved in business activities in breach of the code of ethics.

The Malta Independent says both the former director of the Financial Intelligence Unit Manfred Galdes and former Police Commissioner Michael Cassar refused to comment on an FIAU investigation related to the Panama Papers.

In-Nazzjon leads with a report on the news conference given by PN deputy leader Mario de Marco yesterday, during which he said that the resignation of Mr Galdes raised more questions on the independence of the country’s institutions.

L-Orizzont leads with a report on an exhibition on the late Prime Minister Dom Mintoff, being organised at Castille on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth.
