Irina Rozanova will be in Malta tomorrow for a lunchtime concert at the Pro-Cathedral of St Paul’s in Valletta on its 17th century organ.

The repertoire will focus on Johann Sebastian Bach and will include some of the master’s most popular masterpieces: Toccata and Fugue in D minor, written when Bach was around 20; Fantasy in G Major; Prelude and Fugue in B Minor; two transcriptions by Ch. M. Widor, Siciliana from the E Minor Flute Sonata and the final chorus of The St Matthew Passion; and the concerto transcribed by Bach based on Vivaldi’s A Minor Concerto for Two Violins.

Rozanova has played on some of the most prestigious organs in Europe and is not new to Malta.

The organ was the instrument for which Bach wrote his greatest works. The one in the Pro Cathedral of St Paul’s has been restored several times, most recently in 2013. Handel played on this same organ on his way to Dublin when it was to be found in Chester Cathedral.

The concert, which starts at 1pm, is being organised by the Pro-Cathedral of St Paul’s in collaboration with the Mediterranean Conference Centre. Entrance is against a donation to the Pro-Cathedral.
