Kevin Gameiro revealed that communication with coach Diego Simeone proved to be a big factor in his move to Atletico Madrid and vowed to “give everything” during his official unveiling.

Atletico confirmed last weekend they had agreed a deal with Sevilla for the 29-year-old France striker, who – according to reports in Spain – is set to cost the capital club an initial €32 million.

Late Sunday, the former Paris St Germain forward, who has signed a reported four-year deal, took to the Vicente Calderon pitch as he was presented in front of the La Liga club’s delighted fans wearing the Atletico Madrid colours.

Gameiro said: “I am very happy to get to a giant club like this. I talked by messages and phone to (Atletico coach Diego) Simeone.

“He told me he liked my way of playing and that we will have a great season.

“(Atletico forward Antoine) Griezmann is a fantastic French player as well and I hope to score many goals together.”

Gameiro began his career at Ligue I club Strasbourg and went on to enjoy a three-year spell at Lorient, scoring 56 goals in 120 appearances and earning a France debut, before making the move to Paris SG in 2011.

Three seasons later he made the switch to La Liga, where he impressed with 67 goals in total for Sevilla – 29 of those coming last term – and helping them win three UEFA Europa League trophies before his exploits caught the eye of the 2016 UEFA Champions League finalists.
