The Dragonara Casino has reopened following a €10 million overhaul of its entire gaming infrastructure.

As part of the upgrade, the entire casino layout has been redesigned, with a specific poker section, VIP lounge for private gaming and a new sports betting lounge.

The Dragonara Casino first opened its doors on July 15 1964 and was one of the first major projects to establish Malta as a tourist destination. It is set within the 1870 summer residence of the Scicluna family.

Dragonara Casino managing director Johann Schembri said the casino was excellently positioned to be one of the most sought-after casinos in Europe."

"We are not looking at this investment only from our own perspective but also from a more holistic point of view - as a vote of confidence and as our drive to upgrade Malta’s product offer when it comes to Casino entertainment," Mr Schembri said.

"Investment in this sector however, cannot be seen on its own but requires a holistic approach to ensure that the entire infrastructure and services such as transportation, accessibility and accommodation support further growth of this industry.”

A new restaurant, Violetta's, has also been launched as part of the new casino.
