It has come to my knowledge that new regulations are in force at the Church home for the elderly in St Julian’s.

I find it hard to understand why no sandwiches or snacks are being offered to the residents with their last ‘cup of tea’ as was previously done.

Residents who have relatives visiting them and bringing along something to nibble on are allowed to do so.

However, unfortunately, not everyone has a relative visiting on a daily basis, so why the discrimination? One must understand that the evening meals are dished out at about 5pm and the next meal would be breakfast the following morning.          And what about a diabetic, who has to eat something, albeit small, every so often? Is this a costcutting exercise and is it coming from the management or from the Church authorities?

Over and above this, the new system to outsource the daily meals is also a bad move to the disadvantage of the residents.

There used to be a resident cook who took great care to prepare fresh meals on a daily basis.

When one is paying so much for their loved ones to be taken care of on the last lap of their life, one would expect something better.

The care workers are doing a great job and are the only redeeming factor at this home.
