A flight heading to Malta from Liverpool was forced to divert to London Stansted this evening after a passenger suffered a minor medical emergency.

Ryanair flight FR 8928 left Liverpool at 7.35pm (UK time) and was due to land at Malta International Airport at 12.05am local time.

The plane was however diverted to London Stansted due to a passenger suffering a "minor medical emergency", with a male passenger reportedly having some trouble breathing.

"They called a doctor who was a passenger to give help to the victim while we were in the air," a passenger told Times of Malta.

A fire engine and medical staff were brought to the plane upon landing at Stansted airport, and medical staff attended to the man.

After a one hour delay, passengers aboard the Boeing 737-800 were told the flight would be resuming its course to Malta. The plane is now expected to land in Malta at 2.15am.
