Three new fire-engines were inaugurated at the Civil Protection Department this morning following an investment of €360,000.

The vehicles can be operateed on any road surface including in rural areas.
During the inauguration ceremony, two deputy directors, eight station officers and seven leading and assistance officers were appointed.

Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela spoke about the modernisation of the department through investment in new equipment after 18 years, investment in human resources and plans for a new fire-station.

Mr Abela said that last year, the CPD assisted in 5,000 calls and in another 2,500 so far this year.
