A 96-year-old Briton, Paul Stainer, has flown in to attend this evening's Joseph Calleja concert.

It is the third time he has come to Malta specifically for the concert, but he first watched Mr Calleja sing in London 10 years ago.

"Most people who follow opera have heard of him and probably seen him," said Mr Stainer, who, in all, has been in Malta some 55 times.  (More in Times of Malta print edition tomorrow.)

Tonight's concert will include Italian singer Antonello Venditti, American singer songwriter Suzanne Vega, the BOV Children’s Choir and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Mro. Steve Mercurio.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Malta Tourism Authority and NnG Promotions have agreed to include a free standing area in a effort to promote the classical music weaved with popular music.

Malta Public Transport will be operating a special service after the concert.
