In the Year of Our Lord 2016, today July 23, I am still without a landline after a full fortnight, as GO, my telephone service provider, has still to reconnect it, having been damaged by a careless crane driver on a construction site in Triq il-Modd, Swieqi.

The cable simply crossed a road, a distance of a few metres. It came down on July 9 and I reported it on the same morning. I also pointed out that: a) it was just a broken line and b) as a result, I had no Telecare service. Incidentally, I reported it three times: on 133 to Customer Care, on 8007 2121 and via the GO site.

GO, the caring service. My left foot!

Well, I suppose I must be grateful for small mercies as I get my internet feed from Vodafone, a much more reliable provider.

Meanwhile, I live in hope...
