Update 5.50pm

An explosion that went off around 200 metres (220 yards) from a reception centre for migrants in a town close to Nuremberg was a controlled detonation and nobody was injured, Bavarian police said on Twitter.

"No explosion, no injuries," police said. They said police forces were on the scene after the incident, which occurred around 2.15pm local time (1215 GMT).

Police said in a statement a spray can in the suitcase may have exploded, adding that they were looking for the owners of the suitcase.

German broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk had broken news of the event, saying on its website that a suitcase filled with aerosols was detonated in Zirndorf.

No more information was immediately available.
