Anyone having an IT-based business idea that they wish to turn into a reality can participate in this year’s The Million Dollar Idea this weekend.

For the fourth consecutive year, the students’ association within the ICT faculty (ICTSA) is organising this event which runs from Friday at 4pm to Sunday at 7pm.

Participants can be of all ages and do not need to have an IT background. In fact, the event welcomes both individuals and teams (maximum of four per team) to work together, so someone with a good idea can turn up and team up with a developer on site who could help give life to the idea.

The event is taking place at the Microsoft Innovation Centre in Luqa. Teams will be assisted by mentors James Cassar (director, Event Planner Co. Ltd.), Chris Porter (lecturer, University of Malta) and Godwin Caruana (CTO, MITA).

A panel of judges consisting of John Abela (CTO and director, Ascent Software; lecturer, University of Malta), Conrad Attard (lecturer, University of Malta), Angelo Dalli (CEO, Bit8), Michael Debono (director, Michael Debono Ltd) and Nathaniel Massa (lecturer, University of Malta) will determine the winning entry on Sunday.

Work spaces will be set up and participants can work and sleep overnight at the centre, providing their own sleeping bags. Alternatively, participants can work from home.

The participation fee is €20 per team.

The public is invited to attend the presentation of ideas to the judges which starts at 5pm on Sunday, followed by the awards ceremony.
