ATTARD – MICHAEL JOSEPH, succumbed peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital on Saturday, July 23, at the age of 76, following a ten-year struggle with kidney disease. Michael was the beloved husband of Lily Attard (Grech) for 52 years and loving father to Ken, Mark and his late daughter, Rachel, as well as his cherished daughters-in-law, Cheryl and Mary Beth. ‘Nannu’ was adored by his grandchildren, Evan (18), Cassia (15), Hayden (14), and Julian (11), and he followed their active lives passionately. He is also survived in Malta by his dear sisters, Rose Spiteri (Charles) and Margaret Delicata (Lino). Michael will be greatly missed by the extended Attard and Grech families and his friends in Malta and Canada. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2265 Headon Road, Burlington, Ontario, Canada, on Tuesday, August 2 at 10.30am, with a reception to follow at the church. A memorial service will also be held at St Patrick’s Salesian church, Sliema, on Monday, August 1 at 7.30pm. Memorial donations can be made to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, where loving care had been provided for his daughter Rachel, or to The Kidney Foundation of Canada in memory of Michael Attard.

CAMILLERI. On July 25, Fr EMMANUEL CAMILLERI, aged 74, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He is mourned by his sisters Mariross, Frances, Josephine and Georgia, his brothers Karist, John, Fr Tarcisio and Simon, spouses, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 29 at 5pm at Sannat parish church. Mass will be presided over by Bishop Mgr Mario Grech. Even in death, Fr Emmanuel made a charitable gesture by donating his body to the University of Malta for scientific research. The family would like to thank the staff at San Lawrenz Nursing Home and at Gozo General Hospital for their tremendous care and support. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

FARRUGIA. On July 27, at Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Centre, ISABELLA, née Tua, after a short illness bravely borne. She leaves to mourn her great loss her beloved husband David and her treasured sons Andrew, and Matthew and his partner Helen, her brothers and sisters, Marie Therese and her husband Maurice Zarb Adami, Robert and his wife Anna, Lucienne and her husband Anthony Borg Caruana, Richard and his wife Vicky, Arthur and his wife Claire, John and his wife Roberta, her mother-in-law Violet Farrugia, sisters-in-law Anne and her husband Philip Cassar and Tanya and her husband Ivan Esposito, aunts, nephews and nieces, cousins, other relatives and many friends, especially from the sailing and tennis community. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital on Saturday, July 30 at 8.45am for Msida parish church where Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated at 9.15am, followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. The family thanks the doctors and nurses of Ward 1 at the Oncology Centre for their care and attention during Isabella’s illness. No flowers by request, but donations to Puttinu Cares Children’s Cancer Support Group, Rainbow Ward, Mater Dei Hospital, would be appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

MICALLEF. On July 25, at Mater Dei Hospital, JESSIE of Attard, widow of Leslie, aged 91, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her great loss her children Stephen and his wife Marianne, Yvonne, wife of Victor Ross, Marie, wife of William Ambrogio, Tancred and his wife Antoinette, Bernardette, widow of Charles Vella, Mark and his wife Jacqueline and Matthew, her 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, her brother Maurice and his wife Agnes, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow, Thursday, July 28, at 8.30am for Attard parish church, where Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated at 9am, followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Medical Ward 8 for their professional care and dedication. Donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, would be appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

WALKER. On July 2, ELEANOR THERISA ANGEL, aged 33, passed away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her daughter, her mother Josephine, widow of Michael John, her sister Melissa and her husband Sam and their children Freddie and Jessica, her brothers Jack Allen and his girlfriend Sophia, Andy Bob Allen, her sister Beverly and her boyfriend Owen, in-laws, cousins, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital on Monday, August 1, at 8.30am for St Julian’s parish church where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 9am, followed by interment at Qrendi cemetery. People are invited not to wear black and possibly get a battery candle.

BBQ in aid of Kilimanjaro Challenge Malta

The Kilimanjaro Challenge Malta will be holding a barbeque in aid of this year’s project, the construction of a school and flour mill in Jemu, Ethiopia.

The event will be held at the Merkanti Beach Club at the Hilton Hotel on Saturday, July 30, at 8pm. Attendees will partake of a barbeque buffet and free-flowing wine while enjoying live entertainment, including Thea Saliba and Kevin Paul Calleja. There are also lots of prizes to be won.

Tickets at €30 for adults, €5 for children under 12, while children under six eat for free.
