A Briton on holiday in Malta ended up in court after he crashed a motor scooter in St Paul’s Bay, grievously injuring the pillion rider. He also refused to take a breathalyser test. The incident happened two days ago in Triq it-Trunċiera at about 7.50pm.

The accused, 31-year-old Matthew David Bullian, from Reading, was also injured and turned up in court today covered in bruises and with his left foot in plaster. Police inspector Godwin Scerri told the court that the man had already paid €470 for the scooter damage.

The man pleaded guilty to all charges and was give a 10-month jail term suspended for two years. Magistrate Charmaine Galea also fined him €1,200 for refusing to take the breathalyser test. Lawyer Noel Bartolo was legal aid.
