Tens of thousands of supporters from both Turkey's ruling and main opposition parties rallied together against the failed coup attempt in a rare show of solidarity.

They included normally bitter foes -- backers of President Tayyip Erdogan's ruling, Islamist-rooted AK Party ... and supporters of the main opposition groups including the secularist CHP.

Some 245 people were killed in violence that broke out July 15 and more than 2,000 injured.

Erdogan himself narrowly escaped capture and has since declared a state of emergency, rooting out supporters of the abortive coup -- which his critics say is an indiscriminate crackdown on dissent.
