Total guests and nights spent in hotels during May declined by 0.5 and 0.1 per cent respectively when compared to the corresponding month in 2015, the NSO said today.

Total guests numbered 153,659, while total nights spent amounted to 826,971.

Five-star and 3-star hotel categories registered decreases in total nights spent, with increases being recorded in the other categories.

The largest share of guest nights was reported in 4-star hotels, accounting for 400,856 nights, or 48.5 per cent of the total.

The average length of stay in collective accommodation establishments stood at 5.4 nights during the month under review, at par with May 2015.

The net use of bed-places stood at 68.5 per cent, down by 0.4 percentage points when compared to the corresponding month last year.

On a national level, there were 168 active collective accommodation establishments during May, with a net capacity of 17,735 bedrooms and 39,028 beds.

January-May

Total guests during the first five months of 2016 amounted to 589,983, an increase of 2.8 per cent over the same period in 2015.

Total nights spent went up by 3.8 per cent, surpassing 3.1 million. The net use of bed-places advanced by 0.3 percentage points to 55.5 per cent.
