Four teams from the Naxxar Lions FC Youth Nursery travelled to Germany recently where they played a few friendly matches against Berlin-based teams, including the renowned FC Union Berlin.

The Naxxar contingent in-cluded 46 young players from the U-8, U-9, U-12 and U-15 categories. They were accompanied by six coaches.

Besides FC Union Berlin, the Naxxar boys also played against their peers from Sparta Lichtenberg, SV Bau-Union and SV Lichtenberg 47.

Some of their performances were very encouraging and did not go unnoticed by German academy coaches. They praised the technical level and skills of the Naxxar players who were mostly impressed with the training facilities they were hosted at, particularly the ones at the FC Union Berlin academy.

In Germany, the Naxxar U-15 team won three matches besides playing a blinder against FC Union Berlin who were unable to score against the Lions for the first 30 minutes before finding a way through.

The Naxxar Lions’ Under-8s side managed two wins and the Under-9 team won one match during the Berlin tour.
