Teachers from State, Church and independent schools attended a three-day in-service course focusing on gender equality, creating safe spaces for students, identifying different forms of violence and supporting victims and relatives.
The Voices Against Violence training course, organised by the Malta Girl Guides (MGG) Association in collaboration with the Education Department, was an adaptation of the Stop the Violence badge curriculum.
The teachers and MGG volunteers discussed ideas on how teachers can implement the Voices against Violence curriculum alongside the formal school curriculum, such as during Personal and Social Development lessons, case studies, comprehensions, class discussions, thinking skills and writing tasks.
The teachers and training facilitators agreed that the programme enables students to voice their concerns on violence in a safe environment.
