Retrospective is a collection of paintings by Dutch artist Annemarie Hoogvliet-Weijers, exhibited at the Cavalieri Art Hotel until the end of this month.

Art critic E. V. Borg defines Hoogvliet-Weijers as an expressionist. He writes that she is “dynamic, energetic, full of exuberance and strong, using bold brilliant colours in splashes and vigorous bold strokes”.

He states that “her best work is Roots of Life, an early work in dry brush technique and caked paint that metamorphoses a gnarled olive tree trunk into Mother Nature, a nude woman springing out of the ground”.

Hoogvliet-Weijers started her career as a fashion designer and began painting around 25 years ago. She has participated in many collective art exhibitions in Holland, Malta, Dubai and Sharajah, United Arab Emirates and won several awards. She particularly enjoys using acrylics mixed with vivid coloured ink.
