The Malta police have issued a video to warn against sexual blackmail on the internet.

An average of three people per week reported attempts of sexual blackmail in the first half of this year. Most were men aged between 18 and 50.

They would usually have replied to invitations on the internet from unknown persons, and would be blackmailed after revealing themselves or their intimate secrets.

The police said messages from unknown people should be ignored and secrets should not be shared. Victims should never hand over money or give credit card details, but report to the police.

The video was prepared by the police communications unit (CMRU).
