Tottenham were the main challengers to champions Leicester City last season but they became erratic in the straight for home and had to settle for third place.

Spurs’ forward line was great to watch last season but, perhaps, the biggest asset for manager Mauricio Pochettino was the centre of midfield with the partnership of Moussa Dembele and Eric Dier.

The 2015-16 season didn’t start in particularly impressive fashion for Tottenham as they had to wait until matchday five to taste victory.

However, Pochettino’s men hit top gear at the end of September, thrashing Manchester City 4-1 at White Hart Lane, with Harry Kane, who shrugged off any ‘one-season wonder’ tags, netting his first of the season in the process.

Watford had a decent campaign and it is fair to say their results met the fans’ expectations.

A mid-table position and a cup run are absolutely not to be sniffed at, a big tick and “job done” for Quique Flores. However, the manager still lost his job this summer.

In the League Cup, Arsenal elbowed Tottenham out in the very first round 2-1 at White Hart Lane. In the FA Cup, the Spurs lasted to round five as Crystal Palace defeated them 1-0 at Selhurst Park.

Watford bowed out of the League Cup to Preston (away 0-1). In the other domestic competition, they reached the semi-finals and lost to Crystal Palace 1-2 at Wembley.
