Ibra: New Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has claimed the number nine shirt for the forthcoming season – relegating previous incumbent Anthony Martial to no.11. The Swede be-comes the third player to wear that number in the last three years with 20-year-old Martial taking over from loan flop Radamel Falcao when he joined last summer for an initial fee of £36 million.

Swansea: The American consortium that has taken a controlling interest in Swansea City will purchase “about 68 per cent of the club”. Jason Levien, who heads up the consortium with Steve Kaplan, revealed the figure at the Liberty Stadium yesterday. The reported £110m deal was completed on Thursday after a press conference to announce the purchase earlier in the day had been postponed.

Cornet: Young striker Maxwel Cornet has signed an extended contract with Olympique Lyon. The 19-year-old has made 39 appearances and scored 12 goals in all competitions for the club, who have finished second in Ligue 1 for the last two seasons. Cornet’s new deal commits him to the club until 2021, two years longer than his previous contract.

Kfa Chief: Chung Mong-gyu has been elected unopposed as South Korea’s soccer chief for a second successive term, the Korea FA said yesterday. The 54-year-old, who was chosen as the KFA president in 2013, ran for the election as a sole candidate. He won all 98 votes at the 53rd presidential election on July 21.

Sampdoria: Sampdoria have signed Serbia international Filip Djuricic on a season-long loan from Portuguese champions Benfica. The Serie A side have the right to make the 24-year-old attacking midfielder’s move permanent at the end of the campaign. Djuricic has 24 international caps.

Clarke: Greg Clarke is poised to become the new chairman of the English FA after being nominated for the position by the organisation’s board. The FA has an-nounced that the former Football League chairman’s nomination has been unanimously approved and its council will now be asked to endorse the appointment at a special meeting on August 24. If ratified, Clarke will be the permanent successor to Greg Dyke, who stepped down after three years in charge on Thursday.
