Serie A champions Juventus will start their bid for an unprecedented sixth successive league title with a tough match at home to Fiorentina after draws for the new season were held in Milan, yesterday.

The championship in Italy gets underway on the weekend of August 20 and 21 and the final day of the season is pencilled for May 28, 2017 with several rounds of matches in midweek.

The pairings for the opening programme of the season also pitted together Milan and Torino.

The clash at the San Siro will see new Torino coach Sinisa Mihajlovic making a return to his former club following his appointment this summer as a replacement to Giampiero Ventura, the new national team mentor.

Juventus face potential championship showdowns against Napoli on October 30 and April 2 and Massimiliano Allegri’s Bianconeri play derby rivals Torino on Match-Day 16 (December 10-11).

Match-Day 15 (December 3-4) will be characterised by the derby at the Olympic Stadium between Roma and Lazio as further south Napoli play Inter on the same weekend.

The first derby of the season at the San Siro, between Inter and Milan, will be played on the weekend of November 19-20.

The rules of the draw prevented any of the top city derbies from being assigned to midweek rounds.

Crotone, in their first ever season in the Italian top flight, start the new campaign with an away trip to Bologna.

Cagliari and Pescara, the other two teams promoted from Serie B last season, start against Genoa (away) and Napoli (home), respectively.
