Mayoral confirms Wolfsburg loan

Real Madrid forward Borja Mayoral has announced he will join Wolfsburg on loan.

The 19-year-old forward, who made six La Liga appearances for the Spanish giants last season, left Real’s training camp in Montreal yesterday to join Wolfsburg on a one-year loan deal.

Marseille CEO

Olympique de Marseille’s owner, billionaire Margarita Louis-Dreyfus, has named Italian businessman Giovanni Ciccolunghi as chief executive of the club.

Louis-Dreyfus, who took control of the club after the death of her husband Robert in 2009, also appointed long-time family friend Jean-Rene Angeloglou as chairman of the club’s board.

Louis-Dreyfus said Ciccolun-ghi was a close associate of her husband Robert as a board member of the Louis-Dreyfus Commodities trading house.

After injecting tens of millions of euros into the club, Margarita Louis-Dreyfus said in April she was putting OM up for sale.

Man. City in talks with Schalke’s Sane

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed the club are in talks with Schalke 04 attacking midfielder Leroy Sane but the move is stalling over the player’s valuation.

“Sane is a player of Schalke. Of course we talk to him – Schalke know we are interested, but at this moment we don’t have many possibilities to get him,” Guar-diola told reporters.

The Spaniard was speaking after his side’s 1-0 friendly loss to his former club Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, his first game in charge at City.

“There is a difference between Manchester City and Schalke and it is quite big. I do not know what is going to happen but right now he is with Schalke,” Guar-diola said of the 20-year-old Sane, who was in the Germany squad at the Euro 2016.

Tevez down but not out at Boca Juniors

Carlos Tevez is depressed after failing to help Boca Juniors win a record-equalling seventh Copa Libertadores but is not planning to leave the club, coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto said.

Tevez returned home from more than a decade abroad last year dreaming of helping Boca end a nine-year wait for a seventh South American club title but they were upset by Ecuadorean side Independiente del Valle in the semi-finals.

“Carlos was hit hard like all of us but he’s going to stay. He already has his head in the second semester,” Barros Schelotto said referring to the 2016/17 first division championship due to kick off next month.

Marko Arnautovic is yet to agree to a new contract with Stoke City but manager Mark Hughes is hopeful that the Austrian striker will commit his future to the Premier League club.

Arnautovic, who joined from Werder Bremen in 2013, has 12 months remaining in his four-year deal and has been linked with a move to Paris St Germain.

“We are where we were with Marko, but we remain very hopeful of being able to keep him here,” Hughes said.

Arnautovic is the club’s top scorer with 12 goals in all competitions last season.

Le Guen U-turn

Nigeria have confirmed the permanent appointment of caretaker coach Salisu Yusuf to the national team but have been forced into an embarrassing backtrack over their announcement of Frenchman Paul Le Guen as technical advisor.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had announced that former PSG and Rangers boss Le Guen would fill the role on Monday, subject to agreeing personal terms, but were left red-faced when the 52-year-old told French media he had no intention of accepting their offer.

The NFF later released a statement in which they denied approving Le Guen for the role, saying his name had been put forward as a mere recommendation by the technical and development committee.
