Kalki Kumar steered Marsa to victory at the oval last weekend with a destructive innings of 48 off only 30 balls as Bikram Arora took over as Malta Cricket League top run scorer with an unbeaten 31.

Earlier, Melita had reached a respectable 138 runs from their allotted 25 overs, led by Frank Spiteri (37).

The wickets were shared among the Marsa bowlers but Vignesh Boopathi took the honours with two for 10 from his two overs.

Marsa, the league leaders, reached their target for the loss of only three wickets.

In another match, Krishna CC (157 for 7) defeated Malta Marauders (130 all out).

Niraj Khanna (44), Amar Gorania (29) and Nowell Khosla (25) were the mainstays in Krishna’s winning total.

For Marauders, Sean Byrne took four wickets, including two catches.

In reply, Marauders were on track with 42 runs required off the last seven overs but then Joy Ghoseroy’s leg spin put pay to their chances as he finished with a remarkable four wickets for five runs.

Andrew Naudi top scored for Marauders with 35.

Standings: Marsa 42, Krishna 23, Melita 20, Marauders 16.

On Saturday, the Blackheath Rugby team face Marsa Veterans CC. Match starts at 11am.

Malta squad for Hungary

On Monday, the national squad travel to Hungary for the Pan European T20 Trophy, which Malta won in 2014.

Nowell Khosla is the captain and Bikram Arora vice-captain.

The other members in coach Dave Carlisle’s squad are: Sam Aquilina, George Agius, Feroz Akbar, Paul Bradley, Chris Chellew, Sumair Khan, David Marks, Parth Mheta, Haroon Mughal, Zubair Raja and Mark Sacco.
