The driver of the motorcycle (video above) being driven down Geronimo Abos Street, Iklin, might be forgiven for thinking that ‘taking out the rubbish’ has suddenly morphed into being taken out by the rubbish (truck).

The incident, filmed on a helmet camera, happened two days ago.

It was one of several items sent to Times of Malta after readers were invited to report the unusual or hilarious on Malta’s roads.

Most of the pictures received were about rubbish dumps and poor upkeep.

One reader sent in pictures of the ‘dancing water’ fountain in SmartCity, which he found in a deplorable state.

“The water itself is green,” he reported. “The filth on the water's surface is a haven for thousands of mosquitoes which attack passers-by who dare go for a stroll along the pool's perimeter, and it could be quite hazardous,” he warned.

There were quite a number of complaints about obstructions caused by feast decorations and about the traffic nightmare.

TA' XBIEX TRAFFIC ONE-WAY

A reader complained strongly about the new one way traffic arrangements at Ta' Xbiex seafront.

“After the one way system created on the Gżira side, there is a new one which starts from the Abate Rigord Junction. There are 1000+ people who work in that street. Anyone who is not coming from Sliema, rather than entering from the Abate Rigord Junction, will need to drive down all of Testaferrata Street, turn around into Abate Rigord, then into Xatt Ta Xbiex. He attached pictures (below) of the old and new routes.

His views were echoed by another reader who wrote:

"Transport Malta has gone completely mad! With all the traffic problems on our overcrowded roads, they have created a diversion to add two kilometers to already heavy traffic, just so that cars go all round Ta’ Xbiex to get from Mamma Mia restaurant to the Ta’ Xbiex Marina car park. They should be encouraging every short cut possible," she said.
