The ever-popular summer concert featuring the international operatic Maltese star Joseph Calleja is back with a bang for 2016.

Being held on July 28 at The Granaries, Floriana, this year’s guest artists are the internationally-renowned singer-songwriters Antonello Venditti and Suzanne Vega.

Born in Rome, Venditti started his musical career in the early 1970s, initially collaborating with Francesco De Gregori and then as a solo artist. His works are known to have a strong social and political conscience. Pieces such as Grazie Roma, Benvenuti in Paradiso, In Questo Mondo di Ladri, Ricordati di Me and Amici Mai are considered standards of the Italian musical scene.

Vega started her career in the 1980s and 1990s with a string of hits that made her one of the most popular singer-songwriters of those decades. Albums like Days of Open Hand and 99.9F° were multi-platinum sellers, all reaching the top of the charts on both sides of the Atlantic together with hit singles such as Tom’s Diner, Marlene on the Wall, Luka and Men in a War. Vega has released eight studio albums to date, the latest of which is Tales from the Realm of the Queen of Pentacles in 2014.

The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will accompany the artists under the direction of Mro Steven Mercurio together with the participation of the BOV Joseph Calleja Children’s Choir under the direction of Gillian Zammit.
