The following are the top stories in the Maltese newspapers today.

Times of Malta leads with the fatal traffic accident on the Regional Road yesterday. It also reports that the collapse of a UK travel agency may hit hotels hard, especially if other companies follow. 

The Malta Independent says the government has rejected an Opposition proposal for the Police Commissioner to be appointed with a two-thirds majority in parliament. 

l-orizzont quotes the prime minister saying progress has been made in talks between Air Malta and the trade unions, other than with the pilots' union.

On the same subject, MaltaToday claims that the pilots' pay claims are well below €50,000.

MaltaToday also says that MPs to be fined if they do not show up in parliament.

In-Nazzjon says freeport workers are concerned about a declaration by the prime minister that he does not want the facility to expand further.
