I refer with disgust to the item ‘PA revokes permit after making “mistake”’ (July 15).

It was reported that the PA revoked a permit for an information kiosk in St Julian’s saying it made a “mistake” during the application process.

It was also reported that six board members, including myself, voted in favour of the permit being revoked and four members voted against.

It even went further to point out that “Mr Gaffarena is a client of Dr Sammut, a lawyer by profession”.

I find this reportage clearly very substandard and highly partisan, indicative of a hidden agenda on behalf of some group or individual with vested interests.

Primarily, the reportage is totally false and unprofessional, unbecoming of the Times of Malta and its reputation, seemingly employing unprofessional reporters, as I had the occasion to point out in the past.

In the second instance, I cannot see what is the point of trying to bring in Mark Gaffarena whenever I happen to be mentioned, declaring and parading it like some disease while, at the same time, noting he is a client of mine and that I am lawyer by profession.

Had Gaffarena been the subject of such an application, it would have made sense but since the application concerned a third party I see no point except for a hidden motive which, definitely, should never be the focus of any serious newspaper.

For all intents and purposes, both in fact and at law and forthe information of both the Times of Malta and of the public, my vote was actually against and not in favour.

Editorial note: Dr Sammut does not specify how the report is “totally false”. The only mistake he mentions is the way he voted. The Times of Malta apologises and regrets any inconvenience caused.
