Sea traffic between Malta and Gozo rose by 4 per cent in the second quarter of this year when compared to the corresponding period in 2015, new statistics show. 

Figures released today by the National Statistics Office reveal that 1.3 million people travelled between the two islands between April and June. The latter month was the busiest, with 464,638 passengers - 35.2 per cent of the total. The number of vehicles increased by 4.4 per cent, totalling 363,779. 

The number of trips increased by 5.6 per cent over the period, with 5,426 trips made. Again, June was the busiest month, with 1,908 trips (35.2 per cent).

The NSO also found that during the first six months of the year, passenger traffic originating from Ċirkewwa was busiest on Saturday and Friday, whereas highest numbers from Mġarr were recorded on Sunday and Saturday.
