A €1.3 million extension to a medical equipment factory in Ħal Far will see some 70 new jobs created in the coming months, Economy Minister Chris Cardona said today.

Speaking during a visit to Metallform at the Ħal Far industrial estate, Dr Cardona said the company had started with just 15 employees back in 1992 and today had more than 250 with a global market.

A disposable medical supplies producer, Metallform’s parent company in Germany had decided to first come to Malta after the fall of the Berlin wall. The Malta branch of the company recently also underwent a separate €500,000 investment in an extension to its plant to help facilitate growing production.

Education Minister Evarist Bartolo, who also visited the factory today, thanked the company’s management for an initiative of giving students work experience.

“This is a company has a social conscience as well as an economic impact on our country,” he said.
